About Us

Married in 1980, Joan and Bob Workman have been in a licensed horse business since his retirement from the US Army Chemical Corps in July 1997.  They relocated to Kentucky from Leavenworth, Kansas after numerous assignments in Washington state, North Carolina, Kansas, to Germany with combat assignments in Saudi Arabia and Haiti.

Bob has an MBA (Finance) and has taught adult education classes as well as 8 years operating Junior Army ROTC programs in the high school setting.  He presently is in his 11th year
supporting the stockpile maintenance and eventual destruction efforts of Chemical Warfare munitions at the Bluegrass Army Depot in Madison County, Kentucky.

Joan also has an MBA and oversees the Richmond Housing Authority as Executive Director following several years as the Finance Officer managing a variety of funding sources and expenditures.  Her talents cross a variety of business, professional, government, public and socio-economic entities in this very unique leadership and diplomatic role.

Our exceptional son Thomas followed his stand-out work with Pat Parelli and Richard Winters by selection for two year resident studies with Doma Vaquero world champion horseman, actor, author, and friend of Mr. Tom Dorrance - John Saint Ryan of California. Thomas is a true buckaroo, having then worked directly with master horseman and stockman Mr. Dave Stoddart on the "huge," open range Crooked Creek Ranch in Oregon. He presently supports corporate interest of a 60,000 acre cattle operation in southern California. Thomas is married to Candice and have an nine year old daughter Madison - a really smart showman herself along with a newborn son Evan!

Our brilliant son Scott
just completed his strenuous journey through to final Qualifications in a fully funded PhD Program - at the University of Kentucky College of Engineering for Computer Vision. This stage is known as "All But Dissertation." Since his UK freshman year, Scott has thrived in full scholarship studies, world travel, research and publishing in the academic world. That is all we can talk about....

From 1997 thru 2004, Deer Run Stables LLC was successfully owned and operated to provide the Lexington, Winchester, and Richmond communities with public trail rides, lessons, boarding facilities, and group functions throughout the year.  Practicing Natural Horsemanship brought personal and professional development for our family, customers, and over 45 horses involved in the business.

We treasured the relationship with Eastern Kentucky University for giving us the privilege of conducting group lessons, and with the Richmond Chamber of Commerce for recognizing us Small Business of the Year.

From 2004 thru 2005,
Personal Executive Assistant to Pat and LindaParelli of Parelli Natural Horse-Man-Ship.

This experience provided an excellent position to directly interact with tremendous horseman from around the world in a variety of disciplines and locations.

We were rewarded immensely with the opportunity to benefit from a better time in the Parelli organization; the University level of studies in horsemanship initially made available in this relationship; the exposure to Corporate management in their 10+ million dollar annual business; and the stunning marketing efforts for an array of Parelli products, productions, and education camps.
